The atmosphere in this place did not disappoint! We were able to park right in front the restaurant. The ambiance in this place is amazing! The food!! The drinks!! Was absolutely AMAZING!! if you’re looking for a nice, lowkey, laidback, yet ...
One of my favorite places in New Haven! Drinks are amazing, food is fresh and delicious, and social hour (ie happy hour) is a great deal! Service is always top notch too!
If you want some seafood in a more upscale setting, try this place out. I wanted to have a lobster roll but they didn't have any at the time. But that's okay as I had Squid Ink Pasta instead and it was great. Also, try to come for Happy Hour as they have good deals.
My husband and I were in New Haven for a concert at College Street Music Hall and came across this beautiful, bright, welcoming spot. The social hour (much cooler way of saying happy hour) sign outside caught our eye, and we were pleased to see it was offered on the weekends. (Menu states the social hour is Tues-Sat 3-6 Pm, Sun all day!) The general manager Steph took great care of us at the bar. We tried the house red (a merlot; not usually our preferred red but she gave us a taste and it was pretty decent), a local beer, two glasses of house rose (a delicious French rose) and a dozen Blue Point oysters (2 a piece on the social hour). It was a lovely place to spend a couple of hours! Very chill and relaxing vibe. The bar seating is comfortable and spacious, the restaurant is brightly lit, they played great music; for those that prefer outdoor seating there was a nice set-up out there as well. We plan to come back whenever we're in town next!
**A Delightful Experience at Atelier Florian - Thanks to Triniti** Dining at Atelier Florian was a truly exceptional experience, made even more memorable by the attentive and gracious service provided by our server, Triniti. From the moment we entered the restaurant, Triniti's warm welcome and genuine enthusiasm set the tone for a wonderful evening. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering insightful recommendations for both food and wine that perfectly complemented our choices. Her attention to detail was impeccable — ensuring our glasses were never empty, checking in just the right amount, and always with a smile that made us feel truly cared for. Triniti's professionalism was matched by her personal touch, making us feel like valued guests throughout the meal. It's rare to find a server who is so in tune with the rhythm of the dining experience, and Triniti did so with grace and charm. Her service elevated what was already an outstanding meal, and we left feeling not only full and satisfied but genuinely appreciative of the exceptional service she provided. Atelier Florian has certainly earned a repeat visit, and Triniti’s outstanding service is a big part of the reason we’ll be coming back!
True talent is making you love what you hated when you were growing up. Even people who don't like brussels sprouts and spinach will love what this chef puts together on both of these dishes. Incredible! Creme brulee is absolutely perfect!
My wife and I are on our “Honeymoon” due to covid, we’re restricted to travel to the destination where we really want but decided to take a visit to Connecticut New Haven. The second night we decided to pop into this restaurant and was blown away by the hospitality and food. Our server Kelly was fantastic, she was very personable and attentive. If you like sea food then you’ll definitely like this place. The chef is French and pays attention to detail without fail and hand makes the deserts. Speaking of deserts, my wife had the Vanilla Creme Brulee which is divine and I had the Flan and it was sublime. Definitely a place to experience.
In a dining landscape where "happy hour" often means sad nachos and watered-down cocktails, Atelier Florian's daily oyster pricing feels almost subversive. Two-dollar Blue Points during social hour, dropping to a dollar after 9:30 PM? In 2025? It sounds too good to be true—the kind of deal that usually comes with painful compromises. It doesn't. These are legitimate Connecticut Blue Points, properly shucked and iced, served on that circular raw bar platter that photographs so well but, more importantly, keeps everything properly chilled. The presentation hits all the right notes: classic mignonette, herbaceous green sauce, cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, and those tiny Tabasco bottles that somehow make everything feel more authentic. The oysters themselves deliver the clean, briny punch that defines a proper Blue Point. Yes, you'll occasionally encounter shell fragments—the inevitable casualties of hand-shucking at volume—but that's authenticity talking, not carelessness. These taste like Long Island Sound, not like refrigerated uniformity. At twenty-four dollars for a dozen during social hour, or twelve after 9:30, the mathematics border on absurd. This isn't loss-leader pricing; it's owner Omer Ipek's commitment to making quality accessible. The Belgian transplant has created something rare: a restaurant that bridges New Haven's town-gown divide through genuinely democratic pricing. The setting helps. Atelier Florian's Belgian bistro aesthetic—white walls, burgundy banquettes, outdoor Chapel Street seating—creates the kind of casual elegance that makes slurping shellfish feel civilized rather than barbaric. The late-night pricing creates an interesting dynamic: early diners get reasonable deals, night owls get genuine steals. Context matters here. Chef Brook Stocklin's personal history with oyster-related illness has transformed his approach to shellfish safety. His 2007 Vibrio vulnificus hospitalization wasn't just a medical scare—it was a conversion experience that shows in every properly handled shell. The broader menu rewards those who stay beyond oyster service. The steak frites deliver proper Belgian technique—double-fried potatoes with fluffy interiors and crispy exteriors, quality beef with competent char. It's the logical progression from sea to land, maintaining the restaurant's commitment to technique over flash. What strikes most is the lack of cynicism. In an era when restaurant deals often feel like bait-and-switch operations, Atelier Florian's oyster program feels genuinely generous. The quality doesn't suffer across price points, the service doesn't rush you, and the experience doesn't feel manufactured for social media. This matters beyond New Haven. In a dining economy increasingly divided between fast-casual mediocrity and prohibitively expensive "experiences," places like Atelier Florian remind us that good food doesn't require mortgage-worthy price tags. Sometimes the best deal is simply honest value, served at honest hours. Come early for reasonable, come late for remarkable, but come hungry either way.
